Support your local organic farmers

So I got up and went to the Peachtree Saturday Farmers Market and bought a lot of cold weather vegetables like two types of kale, collards, radishes, rutabaga, sweet potatoes, turnips, and golden potatoes from some of the farmers there, some bread from a local bakery that Maia is addicted to, a cup of hot coffee because it was 20°, also a pretty necklace for my 6-year-old niece’s Hannukkah/Christmas/Solstice present (She’s a mutt, religion-wise and very girly.). This type of market is extremely pricey–much pricier than even Whole Foods–but it’s all locally grown and supports the farmers who would otherwise have to abandon their farms. Next year though, since I know about it ahead of time and will be able to do it, I am going to get membership to a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscription so I’ll be sure to have fresh produce for the entire growing season and will save some dough.

Now I am making a root vegetable soup with some tomatoes and kale added, also leftover rice and red beans, and it smells heavenly.
