Today on Reddit, a person named ldsgems pointed out that two years after his untimely death in 1998, The Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) did baptism by proxy of the famous astronomer Carl Sagan.

This has made me so angry I had to podcast about it. The Mormons were already on my shit list for baptizing the Jews who died in the Holocaust, though Dwight didn’t think there was anything insulting about that. We used to fight so much that we nearly broke up over it! Anyway, James Randi said that Sagan was an agnostic, not really an atheist. I read several great Sagan quotes.

The George Hrab song “Out of My Mind” from his album Interrobang is then played. You should really check out his awesome podcast Geologic and also he does the opening music to 365 Days of Astronomy. His music can be found on CD Baby, iTunes, and any cons he shows up at, such as Dragon*con and Balticon! Heck, the man’s all over the internet. I got this song off of MusicAlley though.

Here’s the ad from American Humanist. I don’t know. While I like the sentiment that Barack Obama’s mother raised him to be a decent human being in a secular household, Obama himself is a Christian, whether that is for political expediency or for a true religious inclination. It seems like crass opportunism on American Humanist’s part and indeed, even a tenuous relationship with an atheist organization may come back to bite Obama in his re-election campaign.

A bar mitzvah speech from an atheist kid. Pretty brave–commentators on YouTube are pretty distressed about it.

It’s the last NaPodPoMo for 2008, and I’m pretty pumped about that. Now I can get into making longer, more elaborate shows, and not having to rush around getting a show recorded and on the feed right away in order to hit the deadline.

Sadly, I’ve gained about six pounds from just messing around and not being careful, and am now going to use the Mary McDougall mini-diet to eradicate some of the baggage and get back on track. Being a no-added-fat vegan is not so easy, especially when you can’t expect people to accommodate your eating plan (It would be nice if they did, but I don’t expect it.).

Once again, if you know of any musicians who would like me to play some of their pieces or if you have some expertise in the areas of liberal politics, atheism, skepticism, freethought, veganism, or anything else along those lines, I would like to have you on the show.
