It’s the last NaPodPoMo for 2008, and I’m pretty pumped about that. Now I can get into making longer, more elaborate shows, and not having to rush around getting a show recorded and on the feed right away in order to hit the deadline.

Sadly, I’ve gained about six pounds from just messing around and not being careful, and am now going to use the Mary McDougall mini-diet to eradicate some of the baggage and get back on track. Being a no-added-fat vegan is not so easy, especially when you can’t expect people to accommodate your eating plan (It would be nice if they did, but I don’t expect it.).

Once again, if you know of any musicians who would like me to play some of their pieces or if you have some expertise in the areas of liberal politics, atheism, skepticism, freethought, veganism, or anything else along those lines, I would like to have you on the show.

I came. I saw. I ate vegan when everyone else was not. I’m still hungry, but I’ll survive. I forgot to bring the humus, and nobody but me ate the other vegan food I brought. And I felt a too noticed by people wanting to know about my diet plan because I’ve lost a lot of weight and I’m embarrassed, but I’ll survive (If only it were possible to be invisible.). I tried to call my mom to wish her a happy Thanksgiving, but she wasn’t home and she won’t call me back I’m sure. And it’s a boring, noisy, windy show. I suggest you skip it. I try to do better tomorrow.

And now I’m eating too many peanuts and Trader Joes peppermint Joe Joes. Alas. So much for eating Bernard-healthy. I’ll be paying for this later on with high blood sugar readings. I’m a little verklempt.

Tonight, Dwight and I talk about a fellow in Hampshire in the UK who, because he refused standard medical treatment and instead tried to treat gangrene with honey, died. Here are some links: Homeopathic healer dies of gangrene after refusing medical attention, and commentary by Orac on Respectful Insolence here. Then of course we talk about horrifying foot injuries we ourselves have seen or experienced. Joy!

Sam’s shows that he mentioned are: The Bears Grove Podcast and The Heart of the Hunter Podcast. Please check them out!

Today I talk about various ingredients for smoothies. I also go off on a rant about legalizing marijuana and hemp. If you have any good ideas for smoothies, let me know.

I also mentioned that I would put in a link for where I bought my chia seeds, but if you can find it cheaper elsewhere, go for it.

In the past couple of years, I lost 75 pounds–which is far from how much I need to lose, but let’s not quibble. People keep asking me how I did it. This is how.

Weightloss - non vegan:

Slimfast

Weightloss - vegan, to improve my diabetes and asthma:

Dr. Neal Bernard - Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine, Dr. Neal Bernard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes

Dr. John McDougall

Dr. Joel Fuhrman - Eat To Live

T. Colin Campbell and Thomas M. Campbell II - The China Study

Other useful sites:

Fat Free Vegan

Compassionate Cooks

Supplements I take every day: Vitamin D, B-12, chia seed gel (I forgot to mention this on the podcast), psyllium husks, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, Emergen-C, chromium picolinate
