I think I’ve finally discovered the supposed problem with my mixer–I believe the USB audio interface has died. It started allowing radio transmission bleed-through and then completely stopped working. I also discovered that the same model is no longer available, alas. This one lasted four years, but as I recall it was incredibly inexpensive in the first place. I am ordering a Behringer U-Control interface to replace it. It costs about the same and the features are similar. It got pretty good reviews on Amazon and I don’t have a lot of money to spend on an interface with lots of bells and whistles I won’t use. I’m just a lowly podcaster, after all.

In the meantime, I’m going to have to use my portable device as a backup. I was going to try to use it as a USB microphone, but Copernicus was too hyper so we had to go out for a walk, so I recorded on the walk. Sorry about that.

Today I am playing “Granola Girl” by Nashville artist Rob Blackledge from his new album Inside These Walls. I couldn’t read my own handwriting, so I really flubbed up the album name. I regret this. The music is very pretty. I found it on MusicAlley.

Please excuse the sound quality of today’s show. I had already recorded a show for today and when I played it back, it sounded like poo, very static-y and echo-y (a sound sample can be found here if you are interested!). So I had to go searching around until I found my Zoom H2, which is a portable recording device and I’ve used it before. However, I like the sound quality and control of good mics and a mixer board, so I am very distressed by this turn of events, especially since I can’t afford a new mixer or even know where I can get this one fixed–it’s a Xenyx1202fx (Behringer). I know, I know. I should have bought a Mackie.

Today I played a cover of the old Wings tune “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Blake Morgan from MusicAlley by Mevio. He has his own record company called Engine Company Records, and as far as I can tell, that seems to be the best way to reach him.

I rant about runoffs and politicians because Saxby Chambliss beat Jim Martin in the runoffs for the U.S. Senate for Georgia. Politicians are schmucks.

I play my friend Graham Holland’s amazing song “Never Trust A Panda” from his album It’s a Frog’s Life. Graham has a Very Important music podcast also called It’s A Frog’s Life in which he plays acoustic music from Liverpool and the rest of the UK–I strongly order you to check it out. Graham has been pressuring me all along to re-start podcasting after my long hiatus and really, he is one of the main reasons I started up again.

I also found a band on Podsafe Music Network that I kind of liked. They are called Brendon Boogie Band and the song is “Monica Monica” from their album Disposable Pop. I believe they are on iTunes and they also have a podcast called Boogiecast.

I think I got my iTunes issues worked out. Apple was not cooperating with anything I did, so I started delving deep into the Feedburner site and got the feed that iTunes is using to actually pull in podcasts.

Click this button to the left and it will take you directly to iTunes where you hopefully will subscribe to the podcast and cause me much joy.

I also found my mixer and most importantly, my missing Edirol audio interface thingie. When I record I am only hearing feedback in my headphones in one ear no matter what I do including switching preamps and headphones, but recordings are okay, so at this point it’s just an annoying anomaly. It may be that the mic I am using is going bad, but like I said it’s recording fine so who knows?

As always I am annoyed at the soft pitch of my voice, which causes me to have to turn up gain and thus background noise. I have the weakest pipes. My dreams of singing opera are dashed.
